Andrei Budescu (born January 1, 1982, Iaşi, Romania): visual artist, associated professor Ph.D., head of the Photo-Video Department (FV) at the University of Art and Design (UAD) Cluj-Napoca (October 2018 – February 2023), dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts (since March 2023), member of the Union of Visual Artists of Romania (UAP), Cluj Branch. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree (2005 – magna cum laude) and a master’s degree (2007) from the Faculty of Fine Arts at UAD, specializing in alternative/experimental photography, animation, multimedia, and audio-video productions. In 2011, he obtained a doctoral degree in visual arts from the same institution of higher artistic education, with a thesis titled “The Relevance of Old and New Photography in Contemporary Fine Arts”.
His artistic achievements include numerous solo exhibitions and participation in national and international group exhibitions, accompanied by several notable awards: 2007 – 2nd Prize at the Chivas Regal Contest, Photo Magazine, Bucharest; 2004 – 1st Prize at the “Playboy” Art Photography Contest, “Artistic Nude” section, Bucharest; 1st Prize at the Photography Salon organized by the Centro Sperimentale di Fotografia, Prato, Italy, in collaboration with the Student’s House of Culture, Cluj-Napoca; 2003 – Honorable Mention and Special Prize at the Photography Salon organized by the Centro Sperimentale di Fotografia, Prato, Italy, in collaboration with the Student’s House of Culture, Cluj-Napoca.
